ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry advised its citizens on Tuesday to avoid nonessential travel to France and exercise heightened caution because of a “recent escalation of unrest, violence, and acts of civil disobedience.”
The ministry urged Azerbaijanis in France to take safety precautions, avoid areas with public gatherings and regularly follow official information sources. It also advised them to contact the embassy in emergencies.
Demonstrations in France began last month with student protests over teacher shortages and underfunded schools, before expanding into nationwide union strikes over inflation and the rising cost of living.
The unrest escalated during the weekend, with several buildings set on fire, including the historic town hall in Limoges. Nearly 1,000 security personnel were injured, according to the Interior Ministry.
Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin said Monday that police took more than 2,330 people into custody in France over the weekend.
