ISTANBUL (AA) - China established a state-owned company Tuesday to develop and use data resources, aiming to unlock their economic value and support artificial intelligence development.
The State Council approved the establishment of National Data Group Co., according to an announcement by the state-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC).
The commission will exercise shareholder responsibilities on behalf of the State Council, with the company added to the list of enterprises under its oversight.
The group was established in Xiongan New Area in northern Hebei province, where it is headquartered, according to a Xinhua report republished by the National Data Administration.
Its core business will focus on developing and using data resources, with broader goals of supporting AI development and expanding the country's data industry.
The company will work under the guidance of authorities to strengthen cooperation between central and local entities, and deepen collaboration across industries.
It will also promote shared capabilities, exchanges of experience and joint business development to increase the value generated from data and strengthen the sector.
The establishment brings the number of central state-owned enterprises under SASAC oversight to 100, according to a list published by the commission's news account.
