ISTANBUL (AA) – Data from nearly half of Japan’s prefectural police forces may have been leaked, police officials said Wednesday, according to Kyodo News Agency.
Officials from Japan’s National Police Agency said the “personal information of officers and other employees at 22 prefectural police forces” may have been compromised following “a recent data breach at disaster information services firm Arcadia Inc.”
Japan is divided into 47 administrative prefectures.
Officials said the prefectural police forces in Kyoto, Fukuoka, Shimane and Yamaguchi had also “registered local residents' email addresses with the service for security purposes.”
The report added that Recruit Co., an employee recruitment agency, has also revealed a “possible leak of personal information involving 3.7 million accounts for its Carsensor used car information service.”
According to a survey released Monday, nearly 30.2% of large Japanese companies may have suffered data leaks, including those caused by cyberattacks or human error, at some point in the past.
