KIGALI, Rwanda (AA) - The Democratic Republic of Congo has notified Belgian authorities of its “disapproval” of the manner in which raids were conducted at properties of several relatives of President Felix Tshisekedi in Brussels, a government spokesperson said Monday.
“We have notified Belgium of our disapproval of the way in which the searches were carried out,” Communication Minister Patrick Muyaya said in an interview with local media, without specifying which aspects of the operation Kinshasa objected to.
They were the first official comments since Belgian police last week searched several properties in Brussels and the provinces of Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant as part of a money-laundering investigation reportedly involving family members and associates of President Tshisekedi.
The raids followed a judicial investigation launched at the request of the federal prosecutor after complaints were filed by non-governmental organizations in July 2025.
Following the raids, Congo’s presidency directed its staff to avoid “until further notice” any direct or indirect contact with the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa or its diplomatic and administrative personnel.
