ISTANBUL (AA) - An investigation was launched in northwestern France on Monday over a viral video showing violence involving far-right activists following nationwide protests Saturday, according to broadcaster ICI.
The Rouen prosecutor’s office reportedly announced that it had opened an investigation into aggravated violence following clashes in central Rouen involving “individuals from far-right and far-left movements.”
In a video published by news outlet Blast, masked nationalist activists wearing hoods were seen beating a man on the ground.
Police officers were seen charging to separate the demonstrators, while those involved in the violence retreated shouting, “Nationalist Rouen” and “The streets, France, belong to us.”
The investigation will allow authorities to examine surveillance footage from the courthouse district, though no victims have yet been formally identified.
No complaints have been filed to date, according to the report.
