ISTANBUL (AA) - Indonesia deployed oxygen buses last week to assist residents suffering from respiratory problems caused by haze from forest and land fires in Central Kalimantan.
Riduan, head of the Palangkaraya Health Office, said the local government had previously operated an oxygen house program during forest and land fires but had now expanded it into a mobile oxygen bus service, according to Radio Republik Indonesia.
During a six-day operation, four oxygen buses served 289 residents. Each bus was equipped with six oxygen cylinders and staffed by medical personnel.
The buses operate Monday through Friday from morning to evening along predetermined routes, which staff can adjust as needed to reach areas requiring oxygen services.
Riduan said residents can request oxygen cylinders directly and assured them that the service would be provided free of charge.
Residents were urged to use the oxygen buses if they experience symptoms such as coughing, cold or shortness of breath.
