MOSCOW (AA) - Russia and Ukraine reported overnight drone and missile attacks on Thursday, with Ukrainian authorities saying one person was killed and 22 were injured in Kyiv, while Moscow said air defenses had intercepted 630 drones approaching the Russian capital.
Russian forces launched ballistic missile strikes on six districts of Kyiv overnight, causing fires and destruction, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said in a statement.
"Kyiv: one person was killed and 22 injured, including four children, as a result of Russian shelling," it said.
Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the Russian capital and the surrounding region were also under attack last night, 630 drones had flown toward the Moscow region.
Most of the drones were intercepted by air defenses at long range, while 163 were destroyed on approach to Moscow, Sobyanin added.
In a separate statement, the Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had carried out a large-scale overnight strike using precision-guided ground-launched weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to the ministry, the strikes targeted Ukrainian military-industrial enterprises involved in the production and storage of cruise missiles and medium- and long-range drones, as well as transport infrastructure in Kyiv and port infrastructure in the Odesa region.
The ministry also said vessels used in the interests of the Ukrainian armed forces had been targeted.
The claims by both sides could not been independently verified.
