ISTANBUL (AA) - Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O’Leary urged the EU to impose a levy on US and Chinese airlines operating in Europe, arguing that European carriers face an uneven regulatory burden, Euronews reported Tuesday.
O’Leary criticized European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as “useless” for the EU’s failure to improve competitiveness.
He argued that European airlines face environmental charges that do not apply in the same way to some long-haul flights operated by non-European carriers.
“If you're serious about competitiveness, tax the Americans when they land here in Europe,” O’Leary told Euronews.
