ISTANBUL (AA) - Saudi Arabia issued an emergency alert Friday in the southwestern Jazan region, near the border with Yemen, before announcing that the danger had passed, the country's Civil Defense said.
The warning, issued through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, urged residents to follow safety instructions, avoid gatherings and refrain from filming, without specifying the nature of the threat.
Authorities subsequently announced that the area was safe.
The incident came amid escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi group.
Earlier Friday, the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile launched by the Houthis toward the kingdom's western region.
