WASHINGTON (AA) - A shooting near a university stadium in the US state of Florida on Saturday night left an unknown number of victims and prompted shelter-in-place alerts, according to authorities and local media.
The police department in the state capital Tallahassee said it was investigating a shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium, but had not determined how many people were injured or the extent of their injuries.
Police spokesperson Alicia Hill confirmed there were victims, while authorities said the scene had been secured by late evening, according to the local Tallahassee Democrat daily.
The incident took place shortly after the university's homecoming football game.
Florida A&M issued a safety alert around 8.40 pm local time, urging people near the stadium to shelter in place or avoid the area.
Separately, Florida State University also advised students, faculty, and staff across Tallahassee to remain indoors as a precaution, saying there was no indication that members of its community were involved.
The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
