LONDON (AA) - The UK is bracing for its wettest and windiest week of autumn so far, with the national weather agency Met Office issuing a yellow warning for severe weather in parts of southwestern England and Wales for Friday.

The warning will cover southwest Wales, southwest England and coastal areas extending towards West Sussex.

Wind gusts of 50-60 miles per hour (80-97 kilometers per hour) are expected in affected areas, potentially reaching 70 mph (113 kph) in exposed locations.

The developing low-pressure system could bring significant rainfall across the UK, including areas currently experiencing drought, although rainfall totals will depend on the storm's eventual track.

Heavy rain is expected to spread across much of England and eastern Wales on Tuesday before moving towards Scotland later in the day. Further rain is forecast across many parts of the country on Wednesday.

The Met Office said uncertainty over the storm's track means the forecast could change, urging the public to follow updates to its weather warnings.
