ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia and Ukraine said Tuesday that a US-brokered ceasefire in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky will remain in place until late Sunday.
Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova said the ceasefire agreement in Oleshky, a city in Ukraine’s Kherson region, was being “fully upheld,” with neither side reporting any violations as of 5.30 pm Moscow time (1430GMT).
“The ceasefire has been in effect since 4 am Moscow time (0100GMT) … today in areas relevant to the humanitarian mission. It will remain in place until 22:59 on Nov. 1,” said Lantratova.
Noting that Russia continues collaborative work with her Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Lubinets, “with the mediation and coordination of US first lady Melania Trump,” she said the agreement must continue to be respected.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the ceasefire, covering a “large area,” is intended to allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians still in Oleshky.
He stressed that if the operation delivers results in Oleshky, it could pave the way for further steps in the peace process as a confidence-building measure.
