ADEN, Yemen/ISTANBUL (AA) - Yemeni authorities said on Saturday that the Houthi group targeted Aden International Airport, port in the city’s al-Tawahi district and two coast guard facilities with ballistic missiles.
The Information Ministry reported renewed ballistic missile attacks on the airport and port in a post on US social media company X, without providing details on casualties or damage.
Separately, the Interior Ministry said two ballistic missiles targeted the coast guard headquarters at the ministry’s compound, while a third targeted a coast guard building in al-Tawahi district. The statement did not report any casualties.
Earlier Saturday, three powerful explosions were heard in Yemen’s interim capital Aden, according to an Anadolu correspondent.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, meanwhile, claimed the group had targeted a military forces gathering at al-Nasr camp and a naval military base in Aden.
He alleged that Saudi officers, led by Brig. Gen. Badr Salah al-Harbi, “were overseeing the assembly and equipping of those forces” in preparation for attacks against the Houthis.
Saree also warned Yemenis against joining forces mobilized by Saudi Arabia.
His statement did not mention Aden International Airport or specify the weapons used.
The Interior Ministry said the strikes came after previous attacks on civilian and vital facilities in Aden, including repeated ballistic missile and drone attacks on the international airport.
It warned that targeting vital facilities and public infrastructure threatened the city’s security and stability, endangered civilians and affected institutions providing security and public services.
The Yemeni government and its allies hold Aden and large parts of the country’s southern and eastern provinces, while the Houthis control the capital Sanaa and much of northern and western Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen's government against the Houthis since 2015.
Recent escalation between Yemen's government forces and the Houthis began in July as a 2022 ceasefire collapsed. The group has also targeted Saudi Arabia's energy and civilian sites.
