Sudan’s banking sector struggles to recover from war damage

KHARTOUM, SUDAN - OCTOBER 29: Sudan’s banking sector has suffered extensive damage from looting and theft during the months-long civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the externally backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in Khartoum, capital of Sudan, on October 29, 2026. Reconstruction efforts began in Khartoum, after the Sudanese army regained full control of the city on May 21, 2025, following months of fighting that had made it the epicenter of the conflict. The depreciation of the Sudanese pound and the collapse of the country’s most widely used mobile banking system have disrupted daily life. While the banking sector continues to recover through measures introduced by the Central Bank of Sudan, some bank buildings remain unusable. Nezar Abdullah; Yasemin Şanlı Sapan; Anadolu Ajansı
