Syrian athlete opens free gym for elderly and veterans
AL-QUSAYR, SYRIA - OCTOBER 20: Former boxing champion and physical therapist Muwaffaq Al-Zuhouri (not seen) opens a free sports club to support the physical rehabilitation of the elderly and those wounded in the war in Syria, in Al-Qusayr, Syria on October 20, 2026. Driven in part by his own war injuries, Al-Zuhouri aims to support others going through similar experiences. Using recycled materials to assemble the club’s equipment, Al-Zuhouri has transformed car tires into tools for weight training. Al-Zuhouri also produces simple exercise equipment on his own, thereby enabling people with limited financial means to engage in physical activity.
