Wildfires force evacuations and mobilize emergency services across Sicily
TRAPANI, ITALY - OCTOBER 20: A large wildfire burns near Scopello in the Trapani area of Sicily, Italy, on October 20, 2026, prompting the evacuation of homes, hotels, and residential complexes. Emergency response teams from the fire department, forestry corps, and civil protection agency are deployed at the scene, while severe blazes continue to affect the Palermo region—particularly Montelepre—where firefighting operations are severely hampered by strong Sirocco winds.
