Diabetic child in Gaza relies on expired insulin amid medical shortages

GAZA, PALESTINE - OCTOBER 26: Amir, a 10-year-old Palestinian boy with type 1 diabetes, looks out of a barred window in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, on October 26, 2026. His mother Nihavend, a 39-year-old Palestinian mother, is forced to use expired insulin injections to treat her 10-year-old son Amir, who has type 1 diabetes. Patients and injured people in Gaza face severe difficulties accessing essential medicines and medical treatment due to the Israeli blockade amid more than three years of Israeli attacks. Due to severe shortages of medicines and diabetes-related medical supplies, Nihavend struggles to obtain the medication her son needs regularly and is forced to purchase expired medical supplies at exorbitant prices.
