Fulpati from flood-hit Gorkha to Kathmandu marks the beginning of Dashain Festival in Nepal

KATHMANDU, NEPAL - OCTOBER 17: Security personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force perform ceremonial drills alongside the Gurju Paltan military band at Tundikhel ground in Kathmandu, Nepal, on October 17, 2026. Marking Fulpati—the seventh day of the 15-day Dashain festival—a sacred bundle of nine auspicious plants, flowers, leaves, and Jamara shoots was brought from the historic Gorkha Durbar palace to the Dashain Ghar at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. Attended by the President, Prime Minister, and senior state dignitaries, the traditional military parade, accompanied by cannon salutes and rifle volleys, signals the start of the official public holiday period across the nation amidst ongoing recovery efforts in landslide-affected parts of Gorkha.
