Olive harvest continues in Mardin's Derik district

MARDIN, TURKIYE - OCTOBER 18: Olive harvest continues in the Derik district of Mardin, Turkiye, on October 18, 2026. Farmers in the district, home to centuries-old olive trees, begin harvesting at first light as olives remain one of the area's main sources of livelihood. More than 10 varieties, including Halhali, Zonciki, Guleki, Belloti and Melkabaz, are grown naturally without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Producers prepare the olives for winter consumption and sale by cracking and brining them using traditional methods passed down through generations.
