MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - OCT. 21: The historic Codex Azcatitlan went on display at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City on Wednesday (Oct. 21), marking its return to Mexico for the first time in 186 years.
The manuscript, on loan from the National Library of France, is being exhibited as part of celebrations marking 200 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and France.
Dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, the pictographic manuscript documents the history of the Mexica civilization.
The codex, which left Mexico in 1840, is displayed alongside 25 archaeological and ethnographic artifacts.
