NAPLES, ITALY - OCT. 19: Truck drivers blocked roads and port entrances in southern Italy on Monday, Oct. 19, to protest rising fuel prices, with demonstrations spreading across several regions.
The protests, which began on the island of Sicily, have expanded to Calabria, Basilicata, Puglia and Campania, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
In Naples and Caserta, drivers used their trucks to block the southern Caserta exit of the A1 motorway, the Santa Maria Capua Vetere exit and the entrance to the Port of Naples.
The blockades caused traffic congestion on major roads and slowed deliveries to supermarkets in some areas.
Drivers were protesting fuel prices that have reached approximately €2.30 per liter.
Italian consumer rights group Codacons warned that the disruptions could lead to shortages of essential goods, particularly food products, and unjustified retail price increases.
