ISLAMABAD (AA) - China's domestically developed satellite internet has connected the Arctic, Antarctica and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for the first time, state media reported Monday.
China's 16th Arctic Ocean expedition team said that its polar icebreaker Jidi has completed a pre-operational test of the satellite internet system along Arctic shipping routes, according to Beijing-based Xinhua News Agency.
The expedition team said the test closed the world's last communications coverage gap.
During the voyage, the team verified network communications across the Arctic, Antarctica and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, also known as Earth's "Third Pole," for the first time, the report said.
China's Ministry of Natural Resources organized the expedition.
