ISTANBUL (AA) - American country music singer and songwriter John Anderson died Wednesday at the age of 71, his family announced.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and best friend," his family said in a statement posted on Instagram.
"To the world, he was a gifted country music singer whose voice and songs touched countless lives. To us, he was so much more."
The cause of death was not disclosed.
Born in Orlando, Florida, in 1954, Anderson moved to Nashville after high school to pursue a music career, working several jobs, including helping construct the Grand Ole Opry House.
He rose to prominence in the 1980s with hits including Swingin', Wild and Blue, and Black Sheep, before enjoying renewed success in the 1990s with Straight Tequila Night, Seminole Wind and Money in the Bank.
