ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish basketball club Fenerbahce Tarfin announced Friday that it has signed Canadian NBA veteran Dwight Powell on a contract running until the end of the 2026-27 season.
The Istanbul club said the 35-year-old, who last played for the Dallas Mavericks, will strengthen its frontcourt with his ability to play both center and power forward.
Powell spent nearly 12 seasons with Dallas, averaging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds across 768 NBA regular-season appearances with the Mavericks and Boston Celtics.
The Mavericks waived the 2.08-meter (6-foot-10) player on Oct. 19, ending his tenure with the franchise.
Powell was part of the Dallas squad that reached the 2024 NBA Finals, where the Mavericks lost to the Boston Celtics.
Born in Toronto in 1991, Powell played college basketball at Stanford University before being selected 45th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014 NBA Draft.
His draft rights were subsequently traded to Cleveland before he began his NBA career with Boston and moved to Dallas in December 2014 as part of a trade involving Rajon Rondo.
Powell enjoyed his best scoring season in 2018-19, averaging 10.6 points per game, and appeared in all 82 regular-season games during the 2021-22 campaign.
Fenerbahce welcomed Powell and wished him success with the club.
