ISTANBUL (AA) - French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday as part of a three-day Gulf tour that includes four countries.
Upon arrival, Macron was welcomed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to the UAE’s Al-Ain newspaper.
The reception was also attended by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, adviser to the UAE president, as well as several other Emirati officials, the outlet added.
The French president began his Gulf tour in Kuwait earlier Monday and is scheduled to visit Bahrain and Qatar after the UAE.
The tour comes amid heightened regional tensions and disruptions to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant share of global oil supplies passes.
