BERLIN (AA) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called for closer cooperation with Mongolia in climate, energy, and the economy as he welcomed President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh to Berlin on Tuesday for talks on strategic ties.
“This visit is far more than a diplomatic act; it is a visible symbol of our special cooperation, our special bond," Steinmeier told a joint press conference after their meeting, stressing that Germany and Mongolia share a commitment to freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.
“To achieve these goals, we work together closely and in a spirit of trust within the United Nations and in many other international forums; this is also what our strategic partnership stands for,” Steinmeier said.
“We are placing our long-standing relations on a modern foundation. And we will continue to deepen these relations in the areas of climate, energy, and the economy as well,” he added.
Khurelsukh described Germany as a close and reliable strategic partner, adding that deepening bilateral relations and cooperation ranks among Mongolia’s primary foreign policy goals.
He voiced hope that the visit will significantly boost trade and economic links, encourage mutual investment and broaden overall engagement between the two countries.
“Now it is up to us to fill these good relations with concrete economic content,” Khurelsukh said, pointing to efforts to expand collaboration across all areas, including renewable energy and discussions of a gold refinery project.
