NEW DELHI (AA) - India placed its NVS-03 navigation satellite into orbit Friday after launching it aboard a rocket from the country's southern space center, the national space agency announced on Saturday.
"Mission Success! GSLV-F18 has successfully placed NVS-03 in the intended orbit. Congratulations!" the Indian Space Research Organization said on the US social media platform X.
The launch took place late Friday from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in southern India, according to the agency.
The agency said NVS-03 is the third satellite in its next-generation navigation satellite system, designed to ensure the continuity of navigation services.
The mission is particularly significant for India's efforts to “strengthen its independent positioning, navigation and timing capabilities,” public broadcaster All India Radio reported.
The broadcaster said these capabilities are “crucial for civilian, strategic and security applications.”
