RAMALLAH, Palestine/ISTANBUL (AA) - An Israeli offensive in Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank has displaced or affected more than 3,300 Palestinians and destroyed 15 homes and facilities, the municipality said Saturday.
It outlined the economic losses, infrastructure damage and disruption to education caused by the offensive, which began Oct. 23.
The municipality said the Israeli army had demolished 15 homes and facilities and closed 327 shops in the city.
Direct daily economic losses have exceeded 12 million shekels ($3.8 million), according to municipal estimates.
The municipality also reported infrastructure losses exceeding 6 million shekels ($1.9 million), alongside losses of 500,000 shekels ($160,000) in the health and environmental sectors.
Around 80,000 students have been deprived of access to their schools because of the Israeli military operation, it added.
More than 3,300 Palestinians have been displaced or affected by the offensive, concentrated in the Al-Jilda and Ain Deir Bahha neighborhoods, according to the municipality.
The Israeli army launched its offensive Oct. 23 following a shooting by two Palestinians that killed two Israeli soldiers and injured three others. The army later killed both attackers.
Israeli forces have since imposed a closure on the city and surrounding villages, seized homes in Al-Jilda and Ain Deir Bahha and turned them into military barracks.
The first days of the offensive saw forced displacement, the demolition of homes, facilities and shops and the destruction of infrastructure. Israeli flags were also raised above homes the army converted into military barracks.
