ISTANBUL (AA) - New security procedures caused long queues at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark on Thursday, leaving around 200 passengers unable to catch their flights.
The Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority said an inspection had identified issues requiring the airport to temporarily implement additional security checks. It did not disclose further details, Danish public broadcaster DR reported.
The airport called in extra staff to handle the screening, while heavy passenger traffic added to the congestion.
Airport communications director Lise Agerley Kurstein said the new requirements coincided with busy travel days, including Swedish passengers traveling ahead of their autumn holiday.
Norwegian Air Shuttle’s country manager in Denmark, Sara Neergaard, said that around 200 of the airline’s passengers had missed departures that evening.
She said Norwegian had received no advance notification about the new procedures or expected queues and urged passengers to arrive well ahead of departure.
Neergaard also expressed concern about Friday morning, when 16 Norwegian flights were scheduled to depart from Copenhagen.
