ISTANBUL (AA) - Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense briefly activated the national early warning system in the southwestern city of Najran on Thursday over an unspecified danger before later announcing that the threat had passed.
The Civil Defense said an alert was issued through the National Early Warning Platform in Emergencies to warn residents of a potential danger in the region.
It did not provide details on the nature or cause of the threat.
In a subsequent notice, the Civil Defense said the danger in Najran had passed.
It urged residents to continue following safety instructions and to avoid gathering at affected areas or filming.
The alert came amid escalating hostilities between Yemen’s Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, with recent attacks targeting airports and energy facilities in the Kingdom.
Earlier Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said two people were killed and eight others injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam in the Eastern Province.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation said airport operations later resumed and air traffic returned to normal, without specifying the nature of the attack.
A day earlier, the Saudi Energy Ministry said two people were killed and two others injured by falling debris after air defenses intercepted a drone targeting an Aramco facility at the Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province.
The Saudi-led coalition also said Wednesday that it intercepted and destroyed five drones launched toward the Kingdom, including in the Eastern Province and Medina region.
