ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced Tuesday that it has appointed Sergen Yalcin as head coach of Türkiye's National Football Team.
The federation said its executive committee approved the appointment of the 53-year-old coach and that a four-year contract will be signed with Yalcin and his staff.
Yalcin, who began his professional playing career at Istanbul powerhouse Besiktas, previously managed several Turkish clubs, including Gaziantepspor, Sivasspor, Kayserispor, Konyaspor, Alanyaspor, Yeni Malatyaspor, and Antalyaspor.
He notably guided Besiktas to the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup double in the 2020-21 season, becoming the first person in the club's history to win the league title as both a player and head coach.
During his playing career, Yalcin represented all four of Türkiye's major clubs -- Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Trabzonspor -- becoming the first player to achieve the distinction.
He also earned 37 international caps and scored five goals for Türkiye, representing the national team at the 1996 and 2000 UEFA European Championships.
The appointment marks Yalcin's first spell in charge of Türkiye's senior national team.
