ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines and air carriers Pegasus and SunExpress are investing in fleet expansion with a combined 317-aircraft order from Boeing as the country cements its place among the world’s top 10 air passenger markets.
Scheduled air passengers in Türkiye surged 2.9% to 129.3 million in 2025, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) data.
The three carriers account for 4.6% of Boeing’ss global backlog of 6,863 undelivered aircraft, said officials.
Turkish Airlines has the most undelivered Boeing orders, with 153 aircraft — 100 737 MAX and 53 787 models.
Pegasus followed with 100 Boeing 737 orders, while SunExpress is waiting for 64 Boeing 737 aircraft.
A total of 264 Boeing orders were for the narrow-body 737 family, while 53 were for the 787 Dreamliner family.
The combined backlog of Boeing’s orders of 317 aircraft surpassed the 137 aircraft ordered by customers in China.
China’s Cathay Pacific Airways ordered 35 Boeing 777s, while China Southern Airlines is awaiting 26 Boeing 737s.
US airlines and other American customers dominated the global Boeing backlog with 1,429 aircraft awaiting delivery, led by Southwest Airlines with 397, Alaska Airlines with 173 and American Airlines with 134.
The narrow-body 737 family made up the vast majority of Boeing’s 6,863 total undelivered aircraft orders with 4,902 aircraft, followed by 1,178 from the 787 Dreamliner family, 709 from the 777 family and 74 from the 767 family.
The backlog remains even after Boeing delivered 475 aircraft globally in January-September.
