- FBI attributes $6.3B cryptocurrency theft to North Korean hackers, but US president says Washington is still examining responsibility

WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Donald Trump said Saturday that Washington could raise a multibillion-dollar cryptocurrency theft from Binance with North Korea if its involvement is confirmed, despite the FBI attributing the attack to North Korean hackers.
Speaking to reporters during a Halloween party at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump said his administration was still examining the incident.
"Well, we're learning about it. I'm not concerned. We're learning about it. We don't know if it's North Korea but if it is we'll talk to North Korea about it," he said.
His remarks came after the FBI announced on Saturday that North Korean hackers were responsible for stealing more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, around Oct. 29.
The agency identified the operation as TraderTraitor, a hacking campaign linked to North Korea, and said investigators had observed the stolen assets being converted primarily into ethereum.
The FBI, Secret Service and Internal Revenue Service urged cryptocurrency firms and blockchain operators to block transactions involving digital addresses linked to the stolen funds.
The attack affected an estimated $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency, making it the largest known cryptocurrency theft.
Binance said Saturday that it had replaced approximately $6 billion of the affected assets using company funds and was working with authorities and industry partners to recover or freeze stolen funds.
