ISTANBUL (AA) - A memorandum of understanding on defense sector partnerships signed on Thursday between Türkiye and Canada demonstrated the two NATO allies’ commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, a Turkish official said.
“This signature was a concrete demonstration of our determination to strengthen the defense partnership between the two allies, Haluk Gorgun, head of Türkiye’s Defense Industries Secretariat, said on US social media company X.
Gorgun said he attended the official welcoming ceremony for Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as bilateral talks between the two leaders.
Gorgun said the discussions in Ankara focused on steps to elevate relations with NATO ally Canada to the level of a strategic partnership.
The agenda also included expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the defense industry, and addressing current regional and global developments, he added.
As part of the diplomatic engagements, Gorgun said, he signed the memorandum of understanding on defense sector partnerships between Türkiye and Canada.
“Under the leadership of our president, our defense industry continues to be one of Türkiye’s most important force multipliers, with rising exports and platforms that have proven themselves on the international stage,” he added.
