ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukraine’s foreign minister said Saturday that Ukraine is ready to cease hostilities and expects Russia to do the same.
On US social media platform X, Andrii Sybiha said the current humanitarian mission in the Russian-controlled Ukrainian city of Oleshky can serve as a confidence-building measure and pave the way for further steps in the peace process, stressing that Kyiv “acted in good faith and kept its word.”
“If hostilities can be stopped in one place, they can be stopped everywhere, and permanently. Ukraine is ready. We expect the same from Russia,” he said.
A ceasefire brokered by US first lady Melania Trump between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, which Moscow took control of in 2022, the first year of the war, took effect on Tuesday to facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations. It is set to conclude at 10.59 pm local time (2059GMT) on Sunday.
