ISTANBUL (AA) – On the eve of Sunday's presidential runoff, Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro has a narrow one-point lead over Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva with 50.5% to 49.5%, according to a BTG/Nexus poll
A separate CNT/MDA poll published Saturday by Brazilian news outlet Poder360 put Bolsonaro at 50.7% versus 49.3% for Lula, with a 1.4-percentage-point difference, within the survey's margin of error.
The CNT/MDA survey, commissioned by the National Transport Confederation, interviewed 2,032 voters on Oct. 21-23.
The polls provide snapshots of voter intentions ahead of the runoff, but their findings should be interpreted in light of their methodologies and margins of error.
Bolsonaro received 46.3% of voting intentions, compared with 45% for Lula, and 2.9% undecided.
In the first round of the elections on Oct. 4, Bolsonaro got 47.03% of valid votes, versus 45.16%, according to Poder360.
Sunday’s runoff pits Lula, who returned to office in 2023, against Bolsonaro, a figure in Brazil's right-wing movement and the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Brazil holds a runoff between the top two candidates if neither wins more than half of valid votes in the first round.
