ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine and Moldova signed a military-technical cooperation agreement Monday to strengthen joint efforts to counter “Russian threats,” said Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi.
On US social media platform X, Koretskyi said he met with Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan in Kyiv, where they discussed EU integration, regional security, and economic cooperation.
Koretskyi said Ukraine and neighboring Moldova are pursuing EU membership together, adding that their coordinated integration would strengthen security and economic ties.
He said Kyiv is ready to extend joint border controls to two additional crossing points with Moldova, with an agreement expected to be signed soon.
Koretskyi also highlighted energy cooperation, including gas transit through the Trans-Balkan Corridor and the use of Ukrainian gas storage facilities by Moldovan firms.
Tofan said the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening practical cooperation, accelerating key transport and energy infrastructure projects, strengthening regional resilience, and streamlining border crossings.
“Ukraine and Moldova stand united in our pursuit of peace, security, and a shared European future,” he wrote on X.
Separately Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Tofan to discuss bilateral issues, infrastructure projects, and European integration.
“Moldova and Ukraine are certainly stronger when we move forward on this track together. And it is important that we carry on together, because it is fair,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
He said the two also discussed the issue of Transnistria – a breakaway region of Moldova, bordering Ukraine, with a Russian military presence – and strengthening military cooperation.
