Yemeni army says it conducted 6 airstrikes on Houthi positions in Taiz

ADEN, Yemen/ISTANBUL (AA) - The Yemeni army said Wednesday that its warplanes carried out six airstrikes on Houthi positions in the southwestern province of Taiz.

The Taiz Military Axis Command announced the strikes in two statements on US social media platform Facebook.

It said military aircraft carried out three strikes in Al-Misrakh and Samea districts in southern Taiz.

A second statement reported three additional strikes on Houthi positions on Mount Al-Armah in Jabal Habashi district, west of Taiz.

The army did not specify the targets or whether the strikes caused casualties or property damage.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthis.

Since July, military escalation between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis has resumed, particularly in Taiz and Lahj, killing and injuring thousands, according to UN reports.

Yemen has been at war since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in September 2014. A Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
